Repairing the Paint Job on Your Own Car vs Professional Paint Repair

Repairing a car’s paint job is not easy. It requires skill, tactics and a lot of patience. A car with a nice paint job is something to be cherished. If you have enough time to spend on your car and you are painting or polishing your own car at home then three components that treat paint surfaces are polish, cleaner and rubbing compound. All of them vary in aggressiveness. They work by removing unwanted dirt or paint, in small proportions, from the surface of the car. To choose any of these products you must examine the condition of your car carefully. If your paint has a dull look after car wash then polish will be the better choice. If paint is extremely dull then you need a cleaner and or rubbing compound.

Rubbing compound can remove entire paint where as polish removes only the smallest amount and a cleaner removes in-between. Removing paint is a serious job. You must choose product with right amount of aggressiveness. First you start with polish and if that does not get the job done or give enough effects then try the cleaner. If polish and cleaner both do not succeed then use rubbing compound. But do take safety measures while using rubbing compound, as it is a strong abrasive. If there is some minor fault or dull effects on your car then use polish. Polish helps you to remove contaminates on the paint surface that may include air borne pollutants, bird dropping or tree sap etc. Rubbing compound can easily scratch the surface of some cars, so extreme caution must be used.

In some cases painting your car with a spray gun is necessary to remove some blemishes or scratches. For that you need an air compressor and a spray gun. Spray must have high quality solvents to guarantee high performance. If you avoid drying times, sanding times or flash times then this may result in very poor presentation. Even if you follow the instructions perfectly still you cannot replace a professional painter. It is highly advised to take help of their experience.

Mainly there are four basic steps that are required to paint a car and you must understand before going in for the process. They are prep, primer, blocking and spray job. You must also know that how to strip a car of all its trim, bumpers, mirrors, grills and other things that need to be removed before painting. You must strictly follow the instructions of mixing and spraying paint to get good results.

Nowadays a thin adhesive film is available in the market that comes in numerous colors. It is quite useful in creating large areas of color or graphics. It is just like masking. If you don’t have enough time and fine painting skills then please don’t ruin your car’s beauty at home. Just send it to a professional car washer and detailer and they will work for you. Only if you want your own satisfaction of doing it yourself, and you have a lot of time to practice and perfect your skills should you attempt to do any serious detailing to your own car.

Learn How to Remove Egg Stains From Car Paint – Car Paint Repair

Vandalism of property is a costly endeavor not only for the recipient in damage repairs but also for the one being so destructive when they land in jail. Throwing eggs at cars may seem like a harmless prank. In fact, though it is not harmless as it leaves stains on some car paint finishes. If there is a great deal of staining it could mean having to the have, the car repainted. Now that harmless prank has turned into hundreds of dollars worth of damage.

There are some individuals that have said that Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion rubbed into the egg stain and left for five minutes then removed works well. I haven’t seen this in action so it’s hard to say how valid it is.

There are two solutions you may want to try before taking it to the auto repair shop.

Method One:

Step One
Most often what happens is if the egg happens to hit the car the wrong way if will chip the paint. So first, you need to assess the damage very carefully. If the paint is not chipped you can try this method, otherwise you need to go to method 2.

Step Two
Purchase some very high grit sandpaper and soak a strip of it in water overnight. The paper must be saturated with water.

Step Three
Sand very lightly the stained area with the sandpaper you had soaking in water overnight. Do not apply too much pressure and make sure you keep the sandpaper wet.

Step Four
Rinse the area well and dry it. You now need to use a rotary polisher. This should remove any marks that the sanding may have made. The technique you have utilized here is a smooth service that has had a clear coat melted into it.

Step Five
Now you are going to want to eliminate the swirl marks and you do this by applying a pure polish and buffing it in.

If the egg stain mark is not gone then you will have to resort to step two.

Method Two:
Fold an extra strength paper towel into a square and place it over the egg stain. Then spray the paper towel with brake cleaner being sure to keep it confined to the area of the stain. The brake fluid may removed some of the car paint so be absolutely sure not to get it anywhere except on the stain itself.

If the car is badly chipped you will need to sand it down, and then touch it up with some car paint.

Removing permanent stains from cars can be very difficult. In order not to end up having to do a full paint job you would be much further ahead to take it into a paint repair shop and have it professionally done. All too often do it yourselfers have ended up costing themselves a great deal of money thinking they could repair a problem themselves.

Ideally if there is vandalism in your area you would be wise to keep your vehicle in a shelter location if possible.

Learn How to Respray and Restore Car Paint – Step by Step Guide and Tips – Spray Gun Painting

Respraying your car means you are prepared to devote some time and money to complete this project. There is no reason why you can’t do this yourself, but you are going to need some guidelines. Unless of course you are already a professional car painter.

First of all make up your mind to accept that you are not going to get the same professional looking job by using spray paints from a can. That’s not to say you can’t use them and get decent results. Just don’t raise your expectations to high. Respraying your car will take some getting used to.

First Step:
Do all of your sanding of the rough spots, and filling of the holes. There is no point in doing this after you have cleaned the car you will just be defeating the purpose of washing the car in the first place.

Second step:
You must start with a clean car. If you don’t then your final paint finish will be a mess. Every bit of debris that you left on the car will be evident after the respraying.

Hint: If your car is wet and you shine a light on it you will clearly see any imperfections that you didn’t catch in the first or second step

Third Step
Now you have to mask off all of the areas where you do not want paint. If you aren’t really diligent in this step you could end up being really sorry that you didn’t. It would be a shame to have a beautiful paint finish, but half the paint is on the windows or chrome.

Fourth Step
Practice a little bit with your spray. There is a bit of a technique to it. Remember we said that respraying your car does take some time. Practice on a piece of cardboard. That way you are not as likely to get squirts or blobs of paint. Keep the spray moving continuously, and in very light coats. Several light coats of paint are far superior to two thick ones, that will look really uneven.

Fifth Step
Allow the coats of paint to dry at least one hour in between. Then apply the finishing coat. Again this should be applied just like the paint. A flowing motion with just a very light coating.

By taking your time to do the job right and following these respraying instructions you should end up with a very acceptable completed project. If you try and take short cuts then this is where your problems will start.

Make sure you use good quality equipment and products. Take your time, because when you start to rush a stage then that’s where mistakes take place. Remember to use the proper safety measures such as the right protective gear.

Ideally it helps to be able to respray your car on a warm sunny day, as it helps to set or bake the paint on, giving it a nicer finish.

So remember before you start, do your research on the how to’s and have all your equipment and supplies at hand, and you are ready to go for it.
