Most of us never would want to see the inside of an auto body repair shop. At the most we can often smell the solvents being emitted by automotive body vehicle repair shop as we drive by and wonder how those people can make it through a work day never being precise and accurate in both matching the color of car panels and repairing auto, truck and S.U.V bodies after vehicle collisions.

It is only by accident – car accidents that most of us end up inside the premises of our local, dealer or a chain auto body shop.

Most shops now bear little relation to the establishments you may remember as a child – dark and dusty surrounded by both piles of used and new car parts as well as a mean guard dog in the yard. There may be a few of those still around but they are a dying breed. Repairing cars now, especially with the electronics in today’s vehicles, requires both skill, education and training, sophisticated tools and an ultra clean, modern shop.

Modern body shops now seem to be uniformly clean, well laid out and well lit. As well many body shops are laid out in several distinct separate staging areas. Vehicles are estimated in one area, body work done in another, electronic repairs in yet another area, painted in a very separate area, and finally detailed and presented to the customer in a display area.

If the vehicle has major damage, then it is moved to a disassembly area and onto a frame machine. Unibody construction is utilized by most autos today. Unibody is a an automotive and mechanical body term which describes how sheet metal is stamped, formed and welded together to form the structural portion of the car or truck body.
The purpose of the “frame machine” is not to straighten the car frame now – rather it is to straighten the unibody construction of the vehicle.

Measuring the vehicle body for correct unibody alignment is more than critical. As little as one millimeter error is all that is allowed by most car, truck and S.U.V. manufacturers. Laser measuring systems are used by many body shops along with the frame machine to ensure that everything is straightened accurately to the decimal point.

With the unibody of the vehicle straight, the car, truck or S.U.V. moves to the metal work area where new sheet metal is mounted and damages area straightened. This work is still done by skilled technicians and tradesmen using hammers and dollies, but even the work done by body shop technicians has been changed by modern technologies. Overhead vacuum lines are connected to the grinders and sanders to pull dust and dirt away from this part of the shop. Modern body shops can remain very clean and dust free- indeed modern electronics , and even the most modern hi tech electronics of hybrid vehicles demand this.

With the entire metal straight, it’s on to the paint preparation area, commonly referred to as “paint prep”. Quality shops will use dust extraction systems to remove the dust when sanding and spraying the paint primers. Infrared lighting systems may be used to cure primer paint quickly and properly. These infrared lights can shorten the cure time from 24 hours remarkably to as little as 20 minutes. All of these procedures both help you to get a higher quality assured job and get you back on the road in a minimal time span.

Painting the final colors and clear coats is done in a paint booth. There are many types and brands of paint booths, however it is generally accepted the best are the “downdraft” units where fresh filtered air enters the top of the booth and any underspray is pulled downward and out through grates in the floor. The downdraft procedure of paint booths can produce the best and most consistent of paint finishes. In addition a well trained operator can make a great difference in final paint and appearance quality and consistency. A dust free paint booth of any design is better than a dirty and dusty paint booth of the highest end. Before spending your money or committing yourself to the job or repairs it is always best to ask to examine several examples of the shops work on several vehicles. In addition ask to see finished examples of several different body types – cars, trucks, vans and SUVs. Look for smooth finishes with minimal dust specs and colors that match from panel to panel. These are the signs of a quality paint job done by a skilled and professional painter.

It goes without saying that a professional paint shop will be proud of their faculties- the layout, equipment, training of their staff – and most of all their people.

Such a shop should have no trouble, barring practical logistics, of allowing you a tour of their facilities. Indeed after all of their careful efforts they should be most proud to give you a tour and point out their strong points and capabilities as well as examples of their finished product.

After all it’s your vehicle that is being repaired – whether it is your new S.U.V, car, truck, van or bus.

The VW W12 used to be a concept vehicle for several years until it reached full production in 2004. It is the ultimate race car from the VW Company itself which was unveiled during the 35th Motor Show in Tokyo. The car has a maximum speed of 350km/h and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. At this rate, it is the next fastest car to Bugatti Veyron which can achieve a max speed of more than 400km/h. For you to know, Bugatti is also a sub-company of Volkswagen. Of course Veyron is far way more expensive compared to W12 but they only have a 50km/h difference in terms of maximum speed with thousands of dollars gap in their price tags. W12 is more practical to buy because the Veyron simply has way too much of everything. The W12 is also more user-friendly if you will just check its automotive repair manuals.

The Volkswagen is a lightweight sports car at 1200 kg. To power it, the W12 has a mid-mounted six liter 12 cylinder engine that produces 600 horsepower at only 7000 rpm. To prove that the given maximum speed and power of VW W12 are all accurate, a prototype was brought to a very famous race track in Nardo, Italy. Awesomely, it had set a world record for mileage achieved in 24 hours. The W12 prototype version was able to cover 7,085.7 km (4,403 miles) at a speed averaging 295.24 km/h beating the previous record with a gap of 12 km/h (7.5 mph).

The interesting features of W12 as seen in its haynes repair manuals include two wing doors that open to the front as well as a roof made of glass that extends from the windscreen above the engine compartment where the engine is located. The engine is a 12cylinder type composed of two very thin V6 four-valve engines that has a 72 degrees angle configuration. In addition, there is a joint crankshaft in the engine having seven primary bearings to create V-V arrangement. The engine weighs only 239 kg which is considerably light in its class. It is technically a two-seater coupe that has a design that resembles those of the VW top-class models in the future. The red painted VW W12 looks similar to Ferrari Enzo but it is way more advanced in all aspects of course. The interior of the vehicle is very luxurious that you can find leather seat cover, aluminium, and carbon fibre. Other stunning features are the air-conditioning system, navigation system, and on board computer and telephone that can all be adjusted and controlled through a colour display located in the centre of the dash panel.

In addition to the abovementioned characteristics, the Volkswagen W12 is also very reliable on the road because it has a state of the art safety system and excellent driving performance. However, not anyone can drive this car. In order to unleash the full potential of the car, drivers with guts are greatly needed.

This is not what you think; this is about buying your next car directly from the used police cars. Think about it one minute. Police cars are a really good offer and a really good bargain. First of all, you have all the options, gadgets and accessories you may need or not with the latest technologies and comforts. You guess it, they are well-equipped. Another important point to consider is that these kinds of automotive are strong and rugged because they have to do their jobs correctly without being late. You can drive them longer, and you can keep them longer. You know if you like sport cars then try to look for patrol cars.

You can have a great price, but as you may suspect you have to invest a little to make it normal. You need to paint the whole car. You need to remove the siren and the wire nets. If you do the modification yourself or by a professional then it will cost you less than $600 to $700. But do it right to preserve and to keep longer your investment.

Another point of reassurance, you will have no problem with the documents. Everything is correct and everything is updated. I’ve forgotten to tell you about something in the beginning when I was saying that you’ve got the latest technologies. You also have the latest and almost new components and elements. You’ve got new gears, brakes, lights and clutch.

Car manufacturers are also building these cars much stronger to protect the policeman and to avoid any stress from a bad driving. You’ll spend less fuel and drive longer for the same price. And believe me, these auto are really comfortable because they spend a lot of time in the car. The security is another good point to consider too. They are a little more protected to avoid damages and thefts. Most of the time, these cars come a really good condition with no major breakdowns.

If they are perfect, you will have to check some points when you’re going to buy these cars:
Check the make and the year to simply get the latest model or your favorite model. But one big flaw is the lack of choices. You know when the government purchases police cars, they buy in lot. It means that during a certain period of time you’ll only have a few models available. That’s why you have to check the make and the year of the desired car.

The best places to make your shopping first are online. It’s really easy. It’s not permanent but you may find from time to time auctioned cars from your police department. The government is the seller. So, I recommend you to search from time to time at various government auctions before purchasing your next car or why your next SUV.

I have been a petrol head for as long as I can remember. Since I was a little girl I have been admiring pretty cars in the street although the pink girlie cars and retro minis that I loved back then have been replaced with much more technically respectable cars, of course! I remember sitting in my dads car dealers, which was just a little business back then, and playing with all my toy cars whilst my dad got on with selling the real ones.

My favourite car was a blue one. I cant go into any more depth than that, I am afraid, as there was no brand or name to remember even if I knew what they meant at that age. It was a little metal car, with wheels that were actually made of rubber and which turned. It was painted in the most fabulous blue shade, with a hint of metallic sparkle and, dare I say it, glitter. Even better than the way this pocket sized car looked was the fact that the tiny little doors opened to reveal a miniature set of plastic seats and even a little steering wheel although I regret to say it didnt turn!

Playing with this little car no doubt set me off onto a road that led me to where I am today. I would sit and play for hours and hours, driving it up and down the rivets in the carpet of the reception area, and even better was zooming the little blue machine up and down the metal banisters, and sometimes letting it fly off across the dealership, in the throes of gravity! I would even construct multi story car parks out of left over cardboard boxes, and if my dad had some free time he would sit down with me and create something magical. The boxes had windows chopped out, and he used a pair of scissors to create entrances and exits, ramps and pillars, and on one memorable occasion he even gave me a piece of tubing to use as a chute for any cars that wished to leave that way.

It is funny whilst nowadays it would take a lot more than a length of tubing to keep me entertained (or at least I hope it would!), back then it seemed like the best toy ever known top man, and it could keep me happily ensconced in a imaginary world for hours and hours and hours. And whilst nowadays I would probably think that little blue car is ugly and far too retro, back then it was the start of a budding obsession, and as such I honestly believed that it was the best and most beautiful cars I would ever be lucky enough to see.

I honestly believe that this car is what set me off into the world of automotive bits and pieces. OK, so my dad being a car dealer probably did it too, but really it was playing and seeing the possibilities that made me aware of cars and all that they could be!
